Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

Agnieszka (pronounced Ag-NEISH-kah for the poor souls wondering how on earth to pronounce her name! I had this trouble too, until I read the author's note) is definitely one of my new favourite heroines OF EVER. She's not beautiful, she's gawky, she's CLUMSY and she struggles with stuff like magic. She's also full of spirit, stubborn (me likey) and won't take nonsense from ANYONE, especially the Dragon.

Character wise, not just Agnieszka was wonderful though! We have Kasia her beautiful best friend who everyone thought that SHE would be picked by the Dragon but then Agnieszka was picked instead. Kasia was probably my favourite character after Agnieszka, as her friendship with Agnieszka was so strong but also because she was amazing in herself! The there's the Dragon who I'm still not sure how I feel about; on one hand he was an excellent character but I wasn't completely sold on the romance because he's a 150 year old wizard that looks 20 and Agnieszka is 17 I think? So romance wise I was feeling a bit iffy, but character wise the Dragon is this grumpy pedantic guy who likes everything neat and to make sense and to fit in the right boxes and then here's Agnieszka who is the COMPLETE opposite of everything of the above and he HATES IT. It hilarious, although I thought he could've been a little less grumpy towards her at times.

THE MAGIC IN HERE IS EPIC. Someone hold me! It's all creepy and a lot of the time awesomely evil and the spells sound amazing even though I don't even know how I'd go about pronouncing them! And then you've got the evil woods with all of it's creepy monsters and trees that are actually kind of alive and THEY EAT PEOPLE KINDA and it's AMAZING. So imaginative. So wild! I LOVES it. *happy face*

I ADORED the writing to the moon and back! it was beautiful and yes, slow in some places, but to me, that kind of made me appreciate it more?! But as well as being SO pretty it also had a nice crunch to it which added a real freshness to it, which I loved so much.

Also FAIRYTALES HELLOOOO FAIRYTALES!! It's like a retelling of Beauty and the Beast AS WELL as smatterings of other fairytales and everything is just so gorgeous ASDFGHJKL. So. Much. Love. My fairytale lover heart is VERY happy!

The only complaint that I really have is that it did take around 100 pages before I was firmly hooked, but then I couldn't tear myself away! But that would be my only grumble!

But YAS. Basically this book has me written in mind for it and it is BEAUTIFUL. I loved it SO MUCH so just go and find yourself a copy NOW. (Also I realize this review is just a mess of !!!!!!!! but honestly I'm just to gushy about this amazing book to be coherent! #sorrynotsorry)

::Thank you to Pan Macmillan for the review copy!::

I haven't had a 5-star read in what feels like forever, so what's a book that you've read recently that you loved so much you couldn't help but splat the 5-star sticker on it?? ALSO! Who's read UPROOTED?! Isn't it AHMAZZZZZING?! (although if you didn't like it, that's totally ok!) I just wish it wasn't over!

Stray by Rachael Craw :: mindshatteringly awesome

It’s hard to remember hating anything as much as I hate Affinity; a bone-deep loathing for the faceless unknown and the concrete walls of my own DNA.

Evie is a Shield: designed to kill in order to protect, and the Affinity Project have finally come for her. But Evie isn’t ready for the sinister organisation to take control of her life, her body, her mind. She isn’t ready to follow their rules about who may live and who must die – not when it condemns the innocent. She has one option: risk losing everything and everyone – including Jamie – and run.

3 Reasons Why You Should Pick Up STRAY!

1.) Yes, I'm going to start of this list by tooting my horn by shouting this from the rooftops but I do not care! IT'S WRITTEN BY AN NZ AUTHOR EVERYBODY! I CANNOT SHOUT THAT LOUD ENOUGH!! I know certain people *cough* KELLY AND EMILY *cough* are calling saying that Rachael is Australia's and that she's an honorary Aussie BUT THAT IS NOT TRUE. I'm sorry ladies, but she's mine ours and no one is stealing her from us! *smiles like an angel*

2.) It's science fiction done RIGHT. Here's the thing: I am NOT science fiction fan. It all goes over my head and confuses me and ties my brain in knots! BUT IN HERE, I actually...ENJOYED IT. Omg, someone hold me! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!

3.) It doesn't fall into SBS (Second Book Syndrome) AND OH MY GOSH I WAS SO THANKFUL FOR IT! Nothing breaks my bookworm heart more then when the first book in a series is fantastically good and then the second book comes along and just...flops. But this? THIS WAS JUST AN EXPLOSION OF AWESOMENESS! After finishing the first book in this series, SPARK, a few months ago, I really liked it but wasn't in lovelove, but this book?! SO MUCH LOVE MY HEART IS JUST EXPLODING WITH IT ASDFGHJKL.

Besides all my ranting ravings, I did have a few problems with STRAY, mainly the slightly slow start and the way the ending ended so fast and with something happening to a certain someone that destroyed me but also made absolutely NO sense for why it was done??!!! BUT BESIDES THOSE MINOR DETAILS THIS WAS COMPLETELY AWESOME. I neeeeed book #3. Pleeeeease, someone, give it to me!

::Thank you Walker Books Australia for the review copy!::

What's a book that recently blew your mind and made you gibber in all it's awesomeness?! And PLEASSSE TELL ME: Will you be picking up this series maybe?? And to the people that have already read the series so far, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?! What's your favourite book?! (Mine is Stray, in case you didn't guess..)

How to be a Stereotypical YA Heroine - THE LOOKS EDITION! :: bookwormies with high blood pressure BEWARE

Bookwormies! Today I bring something WONDERFUL to the blogging table! Something that you have been looking for all your bookish life! And that is: How to be a Stereotypical YA Heroine™!!

We all know how much us bookworms despise *cough* LOVE nothing more then a great big stereotype shoved in our faces when we're reading a book! And what's a bigger stereotype then the Stereotypical YA Heroine™?! HMMM. So today I'm bring you a handy dandy list on how YOU can become THE Stereotypical YA Heroine™ of Stereotypical YA Heroines™! Everyone will LOVE want to kill you! And it's all thanks to me! Aren't you lucky bookwormies?!

I'm (hopefully) going to be breaking this into parts, like today's edition is all about the looks, next time might be completely different! And PLEASEPLEASEPLEEEEASE tell me in the comments about your most loathed stereotypes about YA Heroines!!!!! I'll compile them in my next post and it'll be SKOOKUM!!

1.) Have thick red hair! If it's not red, you can't be a Stereotypical YA Heroine™! Also, readers just LURRRVE nothing more then you going into minuscule detail being told what type of red it is. Sunset, fireworks, fire, flame, apple, marker pen, brick...WHATEVER YOU LIKE. Just remember the beauty is in the detail. Funnily enough, even though 98% of Stereotypical YA Heroines™ have red the real world, only about 2% of the human population have red hair. I DON'T GET IT. WHY THE OBSESSION WITH RED HAIR.

2.) Bite that lip! Stereotypical YA Heroines™ spend 42.8% of their time gnawing away like a hysterical chipmunk on their lips. It's very bad for a Bookwormie's blood pressure reading about lips being bitten THOUSANDS OF TIMES and I swear it sends us to early graves, but authors must consider that a good thing BECAUSE THEY KEEP ON DOING IT. *explodes*

3.) Have the most amazing skin where NO pimple/acne/bubonic plague/SKIN PROBLEM has ever touched. At this rate, your readers will more then likely planning your painful death which might possibly include stuffing you in a barrel and throwing you off a cliff, but I swear this is GOOD thing, as it means they like you. (It doesn't, but shhhhh, don't tell them.)

4.) Be very attractive, but be teeth gnashingly ignorant of it and go around wailing about how UNattractive and ugly you are until everyone wants to kill you. This is a good thing! You're not likable till you're unlikable! And every teenage girl struggles with insecurities about themselves and their looks so you going on about how ugly you are when it SOSOSO OBVIOUS YOU'RE NOT, does wonders for our self worth.

Well that was fun! I'm pretty sure it raised my blood pressure to about Mount Everest level BUT THAT'S OKAY! The things I do for the book blogging world, sheesh. Anyway, this is just four things I can think of off the top of my head about YA Heroine Stereotypes in the looks department but there are many, MANY more!! Tell me your pet peeves about that make you you want to commit mass heroinecide with a fork!! They can be about any aspect of a Stereotypical YA Heroine™!
